The Timeline. Lakenheath’s Story.
At present the timeline covers the period from 670AD to 1790AD. It begins when Ely Monastery was founded and is in three parts. We plan to continue it to the present day.
Each section consists of a timeline and then ‘stories’ which give more detail to show how the village has developed through good and bad times. People are named when they could be identified.
Sources are acknowledged after the stories in parts 1 and 2 and at the end of the stories on part 3. I must however particularly mention Matthew Champion of MJC Associates for permission to link to the Lakenheath Wall Paintings Project, and David Yaxley of the Larks Press for permission to reproduce page 2 of the Larks Press edition of Hodskinson’s map of Suffolk and Moyse’s Hall Museum. St Edmundsbury Heritage Service for permission to reproduce the photograph of the gibbet.
Our work continues. All errors are mine.
